The people of New Cradle are sovereign human beings who are working together towards realizing the New Cradle dream: to be governed according to the values of respect, justice, liberty, and compassion, in that order of precedence.
Stop arguing and start building.
The four New Cradle values are respect, justice, liberty, and compassion, in that order of precedence.
The mission of the people of New Cradle is to cultivate one or more intentional communities that are governed according to the values of respect, justice, liberty, and compassion, in that order of precedence.
The New Cradle Foundation is envisioned as an organization with the mission of helping the people of New Cradle
The New Cradle Republic is envisioned as a new government for sovereign people, with the mission of
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Respect means basic regard for others. The value of respect is based on a belief in personal sovereignty and an appreciation for humility.
Humility recognizes that, despite good intentions, there are many things that people or institutions can’t change without inadvertently making things worse instead of better.
Personal sovereignty recognizes that we are all created equal, in that each person has the right and the responsibility to choose for themself what to do with their life and with their property.
If you want to impose your will on others, instead of respecting them, “Who died and made you king?”
Give a person their due.
Justice is based on a belief that, if a perpetrator does not respect others but instead harms another, it may be good to force the perpetrator to redress the harm. For instance, if a perpetrator steals property, it may be good to force the perpetrator to return the property to its rightful owner.
Mind your own business.
The value of liberty is based on a belief that people should be free to choose what to do with their lives and property, as long as they don’t hurt others. For instance, if a neighbor doesn’t like what you are doing, but you aren’t causing harm, the neighbor should mind their own business. However, liberty pertains specifically to governmental action. According to liberty, civil government should leave all citizens free, except to the extent required otherwise by justice.
Love your neighbor.
The value of compassion is based on a belief that people should help each other sometimes. Compassion is a terrific value! When individuals practice it voluntarily, it can be the icing on the cake of life, the yeast on the dough, the honey in the baklava, for both the giver and the receiver. However, when civil government tries to promote compassion, it typically uses compulsion, and compulsion is very prone to violate values like respect, justice, and liberty. Consequently, civil government should not promote compassion when doing so violates any of the values that have a higher position in the New Cradle hierarchy.
